About
CETFI
At CETFI (Climate and Energy Transition Finance Initiative), we are a multi-stakeholder alliance committed to accelerating climate finance in emerging markets. Our mission is to bridge the gap between ambitious climate goals and the financial resources needed to achieve them. By enabling partnerships between global investors, industry leaders, and governments, CETFI develops innovative financial structures that make sustainable projects more viable and impactful. We recognise the critical role that the Global South plays in the global climate fight, and we are dedicated to ensuring that these regions receive the support necessary to drive meaningful change.

CETFI is not just about mobilising capital (see the CETFI Register); it’s about setting new standards in climate finance. Through initiatives like the CETFI Mark and the CETFI Library, we provide tools and resources that ensure projects adhere to global best practices in finance, risk management, and sustainability. Our collaborative approach, rooted in cooperation rather than competition, empowers stakeholders across the world to contribute to a resilient and sustainable future. At CETFI, we believe that by working together, we can unlock the transformative potential of climate finance and build a better world for generations to come.
Genesis
CETFI was born out of a pivotal moment during India’s G20 Presidency in 2023, a time when the global community was acutely aware of the growing urgency to address climate finance, especially for the Global South. Recognising the significant gaps in existing financial structures and the pressing need for a new approach, India took the lead in initiating the Climate and Energy Transition Finance Initiative (CETFI). This vision culminated in the inaugural CETFI Summit, where over 200 industry leaders, investors, and government representatives from around the world came together to discuss the future of climate finance.
The Summit was a landmark event that underscored the necessity for a fresh narrative—one that not only acknowledged the unique challenges faced by emerging markets but also sought to develop tailored solutions that could mobilise the required capital. It was here that the idea for CETFI was solidified: a dedicated alliance committed to bridging the financial divide and ensuring that the Global South could play its crucial role in the global energy transition. With this collective ambition, CETFI was launched, marking the beginning of a new era in climate finance where cooperation, innovation, and impact are at the forefront.
