Updated: Aug 22

CETFI participated in a seminar on Long Duration Energy Storage organised by LDES Council, the Green Hydrogen Organisation and Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, Government of India.

(L to R)

  • Mr. Sanmit Ahuja, Founding Director-CETFI, MD & CEO, Bharatia

  • Dr. Prasad Chaphekar, Deputy Secretary, Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, Government of India

  • Ms. Julia Souder, CEO, Long Duration Energy Storage (LDES) Council

  • Mr. Rahul Walawalkar, President, India Energy Storage Alliance (IESA)

  • Mr. Sanjay Sharma, Director, Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI)

  • Mr. Nishaanth Balashanmugam, Country Manager, Green Hydrogen Organisation

CETFI presented various innovative structures and models around financing of various projects including:

  • Establishing a FOAK (first-of-a-kind) asset class, for bringing new disruptive technologies to market as the standard venture financing and private equity models aren't best suited for investments that are "only deemed" riskier than normal.

  • Creating linkages to global capital markets is essential for faster energy transition. For that it is essential that markets establish a financing continuum all the way to institutional finance.

  • Bringing in specialist financing structures such as capacity leasing, liquidated damages insurance shall also provide greater confidence to investors.

The panel discussions delved into the swift progress and the inherent challenges within the renewable energy sector. The speakers underscored India's pivotal role in accelerating infrastructure development, particularly in transmission projects, and highlighted the need for comprehensive, systemic solutions to address the sector's challenges. The dialogue also covered the urgency of speeding up technology adoption to meet climate objectives and the critical role that insurance plays in mitigating risks during the energy transition.
